"One Dream One Season"

Tips of the Week

Each week you will find a new tip from the pro's at Team Badlands.  Use these tips to your advantage the next time you go afield.

Week: April 26th-May 3rd
Soak your mouth call in mouth wash after each hunt to restore the latex.  This will help you get that exact sound when that old tom comes strutting in.

Week: May 3rd-May 10th
When dealing with a hung-up tom, moving setups can make the tom close the distance and help you seal the deal even if the move is only a couple of yards.

Week: May 20- May 26
When caling to a turkey that just does not seem to want to come in, try scratching in the leaves. It adds realism to your calling and it might be the difference between a hung up gobbler and your chance at a shot.

Week: May 27- June 2
A food plot is a great place to hunt over in the fall, but, the work starts now. Make sure that the ground you are going to plant a favorable pH level. There are many ways to check for a good pH level inclding self checking kits and also to send it away to a lab. Mossy Oak offers soil tests if you are looking to find your property's Ph level. http://www.mossyoakbiologic.com/content.asp?ID=565&section=none

Week: August 4-10
With the fall hunting season approaching fast, its now time to start your season preparations. Now is the best time to be in the woods scouting for future tree stand placements. The deer are full into their summer patterns and bucks will be using the same food sources night after night. With the early season being known for hot temperatures, focus your efforts on water and food sources. The best time to be in the woods scouting is right before, or during a rain. The rain will wash away your scent and/or keep it low to the ground making it difficult for the deer to detect your presence.

Week: Sept 1-7
When doing your pre-season scouting it is important to look for deer sign, not only recent sign but also sign from past years. Old buck rubs can be a good indicator of where bucks will be during this season's rut.
